Silchester Run Together

Silchester Run Together Group (SRTG) was formed several years ago to give Silchester residents and residents of the surrounding areas the opportunity to run in a safe environment. SRTG prides itself on being inclusive, supportive, and encouraging.

Coached by England Athletics coaches, they meet at 6.30 each Tuesday. The group is typically made up of runners training for marathons half marathons or 10K’s but also runners who use the session for general ‘keep fit’. It dosent matter how fast or slow you are as all the training is group based and all participants will notice a improvement in a few short weeks.

The warm up includes dynamic movement to help with running posture, which allows more efficient and potentially faster running and reduces the risk of injury. This is then followed by an interval session, which will improve running speed. SRTG sometimes have runs exploring the beautiful natural environment in and around Silchester.

Fit4sports meets for an hour (9.10am) on a Friday morning for an all over body workout in all weathers. We run alongside school term times, you can either pay as you go or choose the cheaper option of half termly blocks. Every session is different, but has elements of cardiovascular and strength every time. You don’t need equipment, as it’s all provided! All abilities are welcome, as you can work within your own capabilities. We pay attention to good form and technique. As a Sports Therapist and Biomechanics Coach, I can help you achieve your goals in a safe environment.

We have been training down at the sports ground for over 15 years now and embrace all newcomers and people who want to get fitter with others as we are a very friendly bunch, honest!

Your first session is free, so please come along and have a go!

Yoga with Lizzie

Hi, my name is Lizzie, I am a qualified primary school and children’s yoga teacher. I have been working in the education sector since 2006. During this time, I’ve gained extensive experience working with children from birth to 11, from a range of backgrounds.

It has always been my aim to provide educational opportunities that are rich in content, cater for the individual and meet their specific needs. After all, we are unique beings with so much potential which needs to be fostered.

Having first-hand experience of the demands of the curriculum placed on educators, pupils, parents/carers (and with a pandemic thrown into the mix), I desperately wanted to find a way to ease these stressors within the classroom context and beyond.

This led me to YogaBeez, an internationally accredited yoga teacher training school, where I immersed myself in the mindfulness teacher training course.

Here I was able to combine my teaching experience in school with a qualification which would enable me to incorporate the core values and teachings of Yoga, Mindfulness and Montessori within the classroom. Yoga for children with Lizzie was born!

Interest has been expressed by a number of other sports and activity groups to use the Pavilion on a regular basis. These include local judo, fitness and dance groups.

Currently these groups cannot be accommodated due to hall space and lack of storage facilities but we very much hope to welcome new groups after the refurbishment has been completed.

If you would like to find out more about running a sports club or community activity from the Pavilion, please contact us.
